CANTINA FRENTANA

    CANTINA FRENTANA

Cantina Frentana was founded in 1958, in Rocca San Giovanni (CH); it was the second winery to be born in Abruzzo and one of the few with a still active Wine Tower. The frantana area, laying on Majella hills and lit up by the Costa dei Trabocchi splendour, has always been consecrated to vine cultivation and wine culture. The winery is a cooperative society which counts – today – more than 400 members; it has two main guidelines: the “Vineyard Quality Project” and the “Vineyard Bank”. In 1999, a protocol was launched for growing quality grapes particularly suited for the production of wine in bottles and use them for that purpose. All the bottles of wine sold by Cantina Frentana come from the Vineyard Quality Project. Thanks to the “Vineyard Bank” the winery has taken direct charge of some vineyards that otherwise would have been abandoned; these vineyards have been converted to organic farming. In 2014 the last floor of the wine tower, Torre Vinaria, has been turned into a tasting room: a unique place to give welcome to guests from all over the world.

    THE WINES

The wines produced by Cantina Frentana range from the classics Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano of the Frentano line, to the excellent white wines Costa del Mulino, such as the autochthonous Pecorino, Cococciola and Passerina. Organic wines and sparkling wines (extra-dry, sweet and brut) are also a must of the winery. Prominent products are the barricaded red wines Panarda and Rubesto; among the whites, the Pecorino Doc Donna Greta. The new entry deserves a special mention: Passito Torre Vinaria made with dried Moscato grapes.
